The Division of the Relativistic Astrophysics was founded in 1982
by academician Ya.B.Zeldovich.
Researchers of the department studied the problems, the range of which was reflected mainly in the famous book by Ya.B.Zeldovich and I.D.Novikov "Relativistic Astrophysics". Since then, many famous scintists have worked as of with the members of the Department, among whose, for example are L.P.Grischuk and A.L.Zelmanov.
Prof. N.I.Shakura is one of the founding fathers of the modern theory of accretion disks (so called α-disks). His well-known articles
in collaboration with R.A.Sunyaev and Ya.B.Zeldovich are among the most
cited in the astrophysics.
