Abstract

The distribution of galaxies in space is characterized by the existence of large inhomogeneities - the Large Scale Structure of the universe (LSS). The galaxies cluster into agglomerates of different sizes from small groups to giant superclusters. Two principal statistics (correlation and percolation analysis) are used to obtain quantitative characteristics of the clustering of galaxies. This paper discusses the main results obtained by these methods as well as problems that arise in the study of LSS.
